The Register has a short story based on a survey conducted by XTN data, which found that while 25% of people admit to downloading music from file-sharing services, only 7% of iPod owners admit doing so.
If true, this, again, seems to prove Steve Jobs correct: give people a reasonably-priced legal means of downloading music, and they will not violate copyright.

It’s a very interesting report, and I’m sure the full report would be moreso. But P2P filesharing is just one way people obtain music for free. I want to know how many people regularly obtain music illegally in any way, including copying CDs from friends. Then there’s the question as to whether this stops people from buying albums, or whether it just increases their appetite for music.
Interesting to see that there is some growth in album sales in the UK, but not in the country that’s most actively seeking legislative changes and annoying technological measures.
